Wiebe Gets Second Title of the Year in Hawaii

Mark Wiebe parred the second sudden-death playoff hole to edge Corey Pavin and win the Pacific Links Hawaii Championship. The $1.8 million Champions Tour event took place at Kapolei Golf Club.

Wiebe, now a five-time winner on the over-50 circuit whose first title of 2013 came in July in the Senior Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, closed with an even-par 72 to finish tied in regulation with Pavin, who shot a 69, at 11-under 205.

After both players got a par on the 18th - with Pavin getting up and down from the bunker right-front of the green and Wiebe from back of the putting surface, the two returned to the par-4 closer on a windy Sunday in Hawaii.

Both players hit their approaches short of the green on the second extra hole - again the 18th, with Pavin hitting his third to about 15 feet right of the pin and Wiebe putting over the fringe to 20 feet. Hitting first, Wiebe sank his putt and Pavin missed.

Wiebe collected his second win of the year and en route to earning $270,000.

Bernhard Langer ended up in third a stroke out of the playoff after a 68, while Esteban Toledo (66) and John Cook (70) tied for fourth at 207.

Fred Couples (66), Kirk Triplett (69), David Frost (70), Gene Sauers (70), Brian Henninger (72) and Vijay Singh (73) shared sixth at 208.

Singh, who turned 50 in February and made his Champions Tour debut this week, carded two birdies, a pair of bogeys and a double on the par-4 13th hole.
