Wife of Kuchar's Caddie Passes Away; Tribute Planned Friday

The wife of Matt Kuchar's longtime caddie, Lance Bennett, passed away suddenly early Wednesday morning. Angela Bennett suffered a seizure the day before and died later.

On Tuesday at TPC Boston, site of this week's Deutsche Bank Championship, Lance Bennett got word that his wife was stricken and he immediately flew home to Dallas. On Wednesday morning, players heard the news of Angela's passing.

The couple has a 4-year-old daughter, Emma Grace.

In a statement released by Kuchar's manager, Mark Steinberg, Lance Bennett said, "This is a very difficult time for our family, but we appreciate the outpouring of love and support from the caddies, players and entire golf community."

Kuchar said he had been talking with Lance Bennett during the two-day ordeal. Brian Reed will replace Lance Bennett as Kuchar's caddie this week.

In a statement, Kuchar said: "(Kuchar's wife) Sybi, the boys and I are sending our thoughts and prayers to Lance and Emma Grace during this devastating time. Angela was a cherished friend, a wonderful wife and a loving mother who made a major impact on all who were lucky enough to know her, and she will be greatly missed."

A group of caddies, headed by Keegan Bradley's looper, Steve "Pepsi" Hale, plan on making a tribute to Angela at TPC Boston. They will be distributing 100 black hats to the players and fellow caddies before Friday's opening round.
