Woodland Wins Reno-Tahoe Open Going Away

Gary Woodland added seven points to his 37-point total entering the final round to run away with the Reno-Tahoe Open. The $3 million PGA Tour stop, which utilizes a modified Stableford scoring system, took place at Montreux Golf Club in Reno, Nev.

With the victory the 29-year-old Kansan - who also won the 2011 Transitions Championship - enjoyed his second career Tour victory.

In addition to earning $540,000 and 300 FedEx Cup points, Woodland qualified for a spot in this week's PGA Championship at Oak Hill in Rochester, N.Y.

After a modest front nine in which he carded eight pars and a lone birdie, Woodland warmed up on the back nine with three more birdies en route to totaling 44 points, nine more than second-place finisher Jonathan Byrd, who scored a remarkable 18 points off seven birdies, an eagle on the par-5 13th, and a bogey.

"It felt like it was meant to be this week," said Woodland. "I tried to stay calm and really focus on what I was doing."

Argentina's Andres Romero had eight points Sunday to tie Byrd for second place with 35 points, while right behind with 33 points was Brendan Steele.

Steele, who racked up a tournament record-tying 17 points on the back nine Saturday thanks to an 8-under 28, could muster only three points in the final round.

Dicky Pride (eight points) and David Mathis (three) shared fifth with 32 points.
